Old Mill – Uxbridge
The Old Mill in Uxbridge was a very unique construction project which involved the restoration of a 10 acre national heritage site comprised of a number of grade 2 historic buildings that had fallen into disrepair.
The Old Mill island had belonged to the Cowley Estate and been in the hands of a former head gardener from Kew – something which is clearly apparent in the vast number of plant varieties on site. But years of neglect had rendered the place on English Heritage’s at-risk list.
Datum Point Construction was appointed to sympathetically restore, update and extend the original listed mill buildings, and create three blocks of new, timber-clad buildings.
The island is now made up of a collection of two, three and four-bed loft-style homes constructed with huge expanses of glass in the main rooms to take advantage of the lovely waterside setting. Residents can now enjoy views of the Grand Union Canal and the River Frays from inside their luxurious homes on their own private island.
The project has won several design awards.
